About me

This will give you a brief discription and introduction to who I am and what I do.

Bible reading tool

Ever thought about reading the Bible more effectively? Here is a very useful tool that will help you get more out of your time with God's Word.

Vision building with Nehemiah

Every great company has a Vision. It’s what drives them. People have Visions for their lives. It’s what makes them go forward, trying to achieve something. “Without a Vision, people run wild.” (Prov 29:18 HCSB) Do you have a Vision for your life?

Marriage,...and God in it

Let it be the “Proposal” to enter into a relationship with God or the Unity, whatever issue we talk about, it is always better understood with an illustration from this "perfect picture marriage".

Kingdom Value

The past couple weeks I have been thinking a lot about the verses from 2Tim 3:16-17, especially in connection with my ministry as pastor, counselor and teacher of counseling and hermeneutics.
"All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
It is pretty clear that the Bible is well suited for teaching the will of God. It is also true that the Bible is used many times for reprove, especially when someone isn’t living up to the teachings of the Bible. Even correcting is part of the work we do as pastors and counselors.

What struck me is the similarity of "training in righteousness" to the previous word "correction". Both words are meant to help people go into the new - right - direction. Both words have the intention of setting up a new mind set towards “doing the right thing”.

So I asked myself, why say it twice? It just hit me recently, that "correcting" is just telling someone what this new way looks like. "Training in righteousness" though is a lot more. It is pointing out the Kingdom Value of the topic. In "training in righteousness" we talk about how acting in the right way, we are actually displaying God's Kingdom to and in this world!

Let me show you what I mean on the example of “faithfulness in marriage”:

Teaching from the Bible:

“Let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the marriage bed be undefiled, …” (Hebr 13:4a)
Teaching: Be faithful in your marriage!

Reprove with the Bible:

"… for God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterous.” (Hebr 13:4b)
Reprove: Stop, or better: don't commit adultery, because God will judge!

Correct through the Bible:

“You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery. ’ But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away.” (Mat 5:27-29)
Correct this: Get rid of what enters through your eyes. Get rid of of things that tempt you. Don’t be deceived by what you look at, to do something that defiles your marriage!

Train in righteousness:

“For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior. Now as the church submits to Christ, so also wives should submit in everything to their husbands.
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her, that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word, so that he might present the church to himself in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.” (Eph 5:23-27)
When we display submission in marriage, we mirror the Lordship of Christ in the church. When we display sacrificial love, we mirror Christ’s love for his church. Faithfulness in marriage is a display of relationship between Christ and his church! If we live it, we display God’s faithfulness. When we brake it, we defile it!

When we use the Bible as a counseling tool - or in teaching -, it is not enough to just teach the truth, or the right way. It is not enough to reprove and make them stop destroying their or other peoples lives. It is not even enough to point into the right direction. It is essential that we make the counselee see the importance this issue has in the Kingdom of God.

Training in righteousness has Kingdom Value!
